ASLO Multicultural Program 2019

Starting in 1990, the ASLO Multicultural Program has brought over 1,000 diverse undergraduate and graduate students to the annual ASLO meetings. The program features pre-conference dinner and field trip, meeting-mentors to help guide the students, a student-symposium, and various other activities. The goal of the program is to increase the human diversity of aquatic scientists. The program for 2019 will feature a special field trip taking advantage of the local environment around in Puerto Rico and a service learning activity.

Please recommend appropriate students to apply for the program. This program is designed for U.S. citizens and permanent residents, and does not include international students. The program supports the full cost of participation including travel, hotel, food, and meeting registration. Applications for students to participate in the ASLO Multicultural Program are available at the program homepage http://science.hamptonu.edu/mes/aslo.cfm.

Meeting Mentors needed! If you are interested in being a meeting mentor, please email Dr. Ben Cuker at benjamin.cuker@hamptonu.edu and include a short CV. This CV will be used to match mentors with students of similar interests. Mentors are expected to have a doctoral degree and to be available to work with their mentees for at least an hour each day of the meetings.

ASLO Multicultural Program mentors must arrive in San Juan early enough to be available to meet their mentees on Sunday, 24 February, at 16:00, at the Puerto Rico Convention Center for an hour prior to the opening session. If you have any questions about the program or the requirements, please contact Benjamin Cuker, benjamin.cuker@hamptonu.edu, ASLO Multicultural Program Director.
