Limnology and Oceanography Letters (ISSN 2378-2242) is the newest ASLO journal. It features short-format, innovative and trend-setting research in limnology and oceanography or their integration. L&O Letters publishes original research that uses any approach (e.g., theoretical, empirical, experimental, modeling) on any aquatic system or scale of study from molecules to global cycles. The Journal focuses on articles with novel insights, articulating how knowledge is advanced.

L&O Letters will publish 4 types of articles: Letters, Essays, Current Evidence, and Data Articles. All articles will be written to be understood by the full range of aquatic scientists. Letters are short-format articles that present original research; Essays address new concepts, theories, or hypotheses that stimulate discussion, debate and research; and Current Evidence are concise syntheses of the current status of a subject in the aquatic sciences that is topical, in need of evaluation, emerging or unexplored.

The journal will take an author-centric perspective by streamlining the submission process, helping authors meet publishing requirements related to data accessibility, providing writing guidelines tailored to the journal, encouraging the authors to communicate with the editor prior to submission, and publishing in open access.

A primary goal for L&O Letters is to provide timely review and decisions without sacrificing rigor. L&O Letters will implement rigorous and fair peer-review based on a foundation of scientific integrity that has been established by ASLO's existing journals. L&O Letters boasts a diverse editorial board, spanning disciplines, demography, and country of origin, in order to fully represent the global aquatic science community. The editorial board will strive for transparent, inclusive, and fair practices.
