The Raelyn Cole Editorial Fellowship Fund

Building ASLO’s Strong Future in Editorial Excellence – You Can Help

ASLO has commenced a unique program, the Cole Fellowship, to ensure that our tradition of editorial excellence is even stronger and enduring in the years ahead. The family of Raelyn Cole (L&O Managing Editor for 30 years, 1965-1996, and recipient of the Tommy and Yvette Edmondson Distinguished Service Award in 1996) made the lead gift for this endowed program.

As early-career aquatic scientists mentored by our experienced editors, Cole Fellows will be superbly prepared to continue and amplify the ASLO tradition of editorial excellence. A robust and rigorous editorial cadre is a crucial step in ensuring that quality science is available to inform the public and decision-makers about our increasingly-threatened water resources.

During their two-year terms, Cole Fellows learn skills necessary to contribute as editorial board members, authors, and peer reviewers. Cole Fellows review articles, interact with senior and associate editors in manuscript decision-making, and work with the Editor-in-Chief to implement open-science initiatives of the journal.

Help ASLO to deliver this opportunity to the next generation of aquatic scientists.

The ASLO Board of Directors is excited by the initial success of the Cole Fellowship Program. Your donation will allow us to sustain and expand this program beyond the initial generous gift from the Cole family.
