Chris Filstrup to serve as Deputy Editor for Limnology & Oceanography Bulletin

The Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) is pleased to announce that Dr. Chris Filstrup has been appointed as the Deputy Editor of the Limnology & Oceanography Bulletin. The Limnology and Oceanography Bulletin (Bulletin) is the primary member communications vehicle for ASLO. Chris was selected following an extensive search by the ASLO Publications Committee, chaired by Wally Fulweiler. ASLO President Jim Elser praised the selection of Filstrup, “I welcome Chris to the ASLO team and am really looking forward to see how he can bring the Bulletin to an even higher level of impact and benefit for ASLO members.” [caption id="attachment_382" align="alignleft" width="122"]Filstrup profile pic Chris Filstrup is the new Deputy Editor for the L&O Bulletin.[/caption] Chris Filstrup is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology Department at Iowa State University. His research interests include limnology, phytoplankton ecology, biogeochemical nutrient cycling, macrosystems ecology, biodiversity-ecosystem functioning relationships, and freshwater resources management. His research focuses on how pelagic community structure responds to multiple stressors, and how these changes in turn affect ecosystem functions. He received his BS degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his PhD from Baylor University. Filstrup has been an active ASLO member for the past decade, serving as a member of the Early Career Committee, publishing and reviewing for ASLO publications, mentoring first-time attendees and judging student presentations at ASLO conferences. “I am excited to be selected as Deputy Editor of the Limnology and Oceanography Bulletin and to serve the ASLO community within this role,” said Filstrup. “The Limnology and Oceanography Bulletin serves as an important mechanism for communicating society news to ASLO’s membership and provides a great venue for publishing articles that may not fit within the scope or format of other journals. I look forward to continuing the high quality of this publication.” As Deputy Editor, Filstrup will solicit articles, features, and book reviews for the Bulletin. Bulletin Editor-in-Chief Adrienne Sponberg praised the selection, noting Filstrup’s high level of engagement as an ASLO member: “Chris will bring valuable insights into the needs and interests of early career members, keeping the Bulletin fresh and relevant to the large proportion of our members and readers who are early in their career.” Filstrup begins his term as Deputy Editor in January 2016. He can be reached via email at filstrup@aslo.org and on Twitter at @ctfilstrup.
