Dear Student Members:

My appointment as ASLO Student Representative will end next July and I am
writing to encourage you to consider becoming the next student elected to
the ASLO Board of Directors. After serving for two and a half years, I can
wholeheartedly recommend this opportunity to you. The experience that I
have gained serving on the Board has far surpassed my expectations.
Through this appointment I have learned how the Society and journal are
directed, gained insight into the the fields of Limnology and Oceanography,
and become acquainted with many scientists that I otherwise would have
never known. The committment required of student representatives is
actually rather minor, totalling aproximately 5 hours a month, except
during conferences and Board Meetings. You determine your responsibilities
as the Student Representative, but in the past we have concerned ourselves
with increasing student participation at meetings and in education,
providing services for the student members such as matching potential
roommmates at meetings, and developing the student web page. Opportunities
abound and the Board is eager to facilitate new student projects. If you
are interested in serving our Society in this capacity, please send a
Statement
of Interest with the following to weiler@whitman.edu:
1. Name, address, phone, fax, e-mail, institutional affiliation, month/year
graduate study began, month/year degree expected, and number of ASLO
meetings attended.
2. Statement of interest in serving on the ASLO Board (1 page maximum);
include any experience that might be relevant.
3. Brief CV (2 page maximum).
4. Two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from your advisor
(letters should be sent directly to weiler@whitman.edu)

If you have any questions regarding the position, please do not hesitate to
contact Maggie Squires or myself at studentrep@aslo.org, we would be happy
to provide you with any other inofrmation regarding the position.

Sincerely,

Cristina Takacs
