GET-TOGETHER FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDENTS AND EARLY CAREER GRADUATES
* Sunday, December 10
* 17:00 - 18:30
* Moscone West Level 2 Foyer
AGU won't allow us to advertise a specific time or space to meet
during their opening reception on Sunday Night. However, we would
like to get folks together early in the meeting to network. Jenny
Baeseman, a colleague who is working with me on the New Generation of
Polar Researchers project for the International Polar Year (IPY), and
I will plan to plant ourselves somewhere at the AGU reception to
serve as a 'point of contact'. We will be happy to answer questions
about IPY activities for students and early-career polar researchers,
the DISCCRS and DIALOG initiatives for interdisciplinary graduates.
We will also serve as an informal meeting place for past DIALOG/
DISCCRS symposium participants, students and recent PhD grads
interested in interdisciplinary work. Look for a 4' inflatable
penguin that Jenny will be carrying :)
If you aren't familiar with DIALOG or DISCCRS, please see:

Be sure to join us at 18:15 if interested in going out to dinner as a
group.
INFORMATION SESSION, IPY (International Polar Year)
ACTIVITIES FOR STUDENTS AND EARLY-CAREER RESEARCHERS
http://ccar.colorado.edu/ngpr/
* Monday, December 11
* 12:30 - 1:30
* Marriott Pacific A room
Jenny and I have reserved a room to provide a brief presentation on
early-career activities to be held in conjunction with the upcoming
IPY. Dave Carlson, Director of the International Polar Year
International Programme Office (IPY IPO), will be there to tell us
about the exciting activities happening during the IPY. Chris
Elfring, Director of the National Academy of Science's (NAS) Polar
Research Board and Marie Uhle, program officer for the NAS's Polar
Research Board, will also share their perspectives. Representatives
from the National Science Foundation have also been invited to
describe initiatives related to the IPY.
No food will be provided, but the Marriott has a deli, "City Blends",
and the Moscone Center has food -- so plan on grabbing a a lunch-to-
go and join us!
