Dear All,
Our professional activities do not take place in a vacuum.
Professional societies are an integral part of our community, and it
is important to belong--not just because there may be a meeting you
want to attend and the registration fee is lower, or because you get
a great deal on your favorite journal. Societies do much, much more.
The aquatic science and climate change communities are inherently
interdisciplinary. There is no one society that covers the full
breadth of issues, and so there are probably at least two societies
that any one of you might want to affiliate with.
DIALOG, DIACES and DISCCRS are sponsored and co-sponsored by various
professional societies. Judging by the surveys I conduct, I know that
most of you learned about these programs through a professional
society.
I would like to take this moment to thank the societies for their
support of DIALOG, DIACES and DISCCRS, and encourage you to find out
more about the sponsoring societies. Most society memberships begin
on the first of January, so now is a perfect time to renew your
membership if you haven't yet, or perhaps to become a member of a
society. Below is a list of sponsoring societies and their web
addresses. I hope you will take a look at them and consider joining
whichever seem most appropriate for your individual situation.
--If you are a member of a society not listed below, and think they
might be interested in co-sponsoring DIALOG or DISCCRS, please let me
know. I am particularly interested in bringing sociologists into the
DISCCRS program.
cheers, sue
