Dear all,

It's a short week this week, My husband and I are headiing to UC
Santa Cruz to be with our son for his first Thanksgiving away from
home. As a recent empty-nester, I encourage you "youngsters" to savor
every moment of your children's childhood--the night-time wakings,
the diapers, the terrible twos and the traumatic teens as well as
those brief moments of familial bliss that do crop up between all the
hectic schedules of science professionals.
For those of you who do not celebrate the US Thanksgiving this
coming Thursday, I hope you will pause a moment wherever you are with
us in the US and elsewhere to be thankful for what we do have, and
pray for peace and good will everywhere. I have lost count of the
number of countries that are represented in DIALOG, but I do know we
all share this one small piece of the universe and we all hope for
the same things. My thoughts this year turn particularly to our
colleagues in Zimbabwe, and in the Middle East. It is hard to find
much to be thankful about in such places. I know we all hope there
will be more peace to be thankful for next year.
