The first International Summer School on Surface Ocean-Lower Atmosphere
Study will be held in Cargese, Corsica (France)

This school will expose graduate students and young scientists to recent
developments and methodologies in the study of biogeochemical and

of Tennessee, Knoxville are currently seeking four tenure track assistant

POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS
Three post-doctoral positions are available at the Center for Environmental
Biotechnology (www.ceb.utk.edu) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
These positions are suited for individuals highly motivated for
interdisciplinary team research on DARPA, NSF, DOE, NASA and USDA sponsored
projects. Excellent science and engineering collaborative opportunities on
campus as well as through cooperative efforts with researchers in
microelectronics, complex systems analysis and nanoscience at Oak Ridge

Eukaryotic Molecular Biologist. The successful candidate will build o=

BIOSPICE and nano-biomaterials development. A major emphasis of the
research program is exploiting molecular and nanoscale tools for
environmental biosensing, processing and analysis. Strong molecular or
analytical skills are expected. Required qualifications include a Ph.D.
with experience in molecular biology, microbiology, analytical chemistry,
or electrical, chemical or materials engineering.

able to work independently and as part of an integrated research team.

Research Associate (Postdoctoral). The College of Oceanic and Atmosphe=

Sciences (COAS), Oregon State University (OSU), invites applications for a
full-time, fixed-term, annual appointment. As part of the NASA carbon cycle
program and ONR/NOPP Paradigm project, we are developing coupled
physical/biological models of the North Pacific Ocean. We are especially
interested in the ocean carbon cycle on seasonal to interannual time scales.
We seek a person who will actively collaborate with our interdisciplinary
team of researchers. This position requires the design, implementation, and
testing of one and three-dimensional models of the coupled physics and
biology of the ocean and comparison with observations. Data assimilation
techniques are used to estimate model errors and parameters, and a wide
variety of visualization tools are used to study model output. The position
requires publication in the scientific literature and participation in
science team meetings. Qualifications: PhD or equivalent degree in
oceanography or other relevant Earth science; extensive experience in
numerical modeling; experience with coupled models and plankton processes
and data assimilation is helpful; excellent communication and presentation
skills; must be able to work independently and integrate efforts with a
larger research team; and be willing to travel and participate in
