Research Position, Climate Change at Oregon State University

RESEARCH POSITION, CLIMATE CHANGE, AT OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY
The College of Oceanic & Atmospheric Science (COAS)/Oregon State University
(OSU) invites applications for a part-time (0.75 FTE), fixed-term, Faculty
Research Assistant position which is funded by grant and contract funds.
Responsibilities: conduct research involving spatial climate distribution
and changes in climate over time; interpret and analyze data to determine
development of new spatial climate tools; design and implement original and
innovative software to perform climate data analysis and climate mapping;
develop improved graphical user interfaces to improve display of climate
information process and analyze large research-quality climate data sets
from the U.S. and foreign countries; create new climate maps using
Geographic Information Systems (GIS); maintain daily operation of a growing
computer network; write and edit technical reports and journal articles
summarizing research findings. Qualifications: B.S. or M.S. in atmospheric
sciences, computer science or related field; one or more years=ED experience
working in scientific or research environment; experience in climatological
or meteorological services; demonstrated responsibility for scientific
analysis and programming, including quality assurance analysis; two or more
years experience programming with C, Java, Perl, and shell scripts on UNIX
and Windows platforms; data archiving and networking skills in Unix, PC, and
MacOS environments; experience with additional languages like FORTRAN, TCL,
JavaScript, ASP, VB helpful; two or more years experience in UNIX system
administration; ability to modify and debug existing software, especially in
=46ORTRAN; excellent verbal and written communication skills; experience wit=
h
Unidata's LDM or other Internet data distribution software, and with MCIDAS
or other satellite image generation software will be helpful; familiarity
with IPW or other image processing software helpful; GIS experience helpful.
