Dear all,

I would like to ask you a big favor. We have started a project on the=20
chemotaxonomy and molecular taxonomy of Elodea species in Europe. We=20
especially observe different types (different leaf shapes) of E. nuttallii=
=20
and wonder if this is phenotypic or genotypic difference. We see=20
differences in the pattern of secondary metabolites between samples from=20
different species but also between the same species from different sites.=20
Since Elodea is neophytic in Europe, coming from North America, we would=20
like to have some specimen from the US or Canada (or other countries) for=20
comparison, too.

If you have any Elodea (canadensis, nuttallii or even Egeria densa) or=20
Hydrilla in your lakes, rivers etc., could you send us some specimen of=20
each site? The best option for sending is :
* dried with silica gel (blue-gel). For the latter use 10 g silica gel per=
=20
g fresh weight plant. If gel turns pink, change gel once. After this, it=20
should be ok for sending.
* you could also freeze-dry the material (lyophilize), and then send in a=20
well closed container.
From each sample one to ten grams of dry weight are perfect for our=
 studies.

Best regards
Elisabeth
