This is a reminder that the deadline for the DIACES symposium is fast 
approaching -- See Below for details. Remember, in addition to the 
other application materials, you will need two letters of 
recommendation and these should be sent by e-mail and received by May 
1.

                 DIACES SYMPOSIUM APPLICATION DEADLINE
                                                  MAY 1, 2002

As with the DIALOG symposia, DIACES, the Dissertation Symposium for 
the Advancement of Coastal, Estuarine and Great Lakes Science, 
provides a capstone experience for recent PhDs to foster 
interdisciplinary understanding, early career development and peer 
networking. The goal is to improve understanding of coastal and 
estuarine environments --including human impacts-- and foster sound 
research, policy and management practices. Program information is

DIACES SYMPOSIUM DATES AND LOCATION
         October 28 - November 2, 2002
         Copamarina Resort, Puerto Rico http://copamarina.com

ELIGIBILITY
         PhD degree completed
         January 1, 2000 - March 31, 2002
Graduates in any biology, chemistry, geology, math/modeling or 
physics subject relevant to coastal, estuarine or Great Lakes 
environments are eligible. Graduates from all countries are 
encouraged to apply.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
       May 1, 2002
All application materials, including 2 letters of recommendation, are 
due by the deadline. All materials should be submitted electronically.

PARTICIPANT SELECTION
The symposium will be limited to 40 recent PhDs. Participants will be 
selected based on the application materials submitted. Selection will 
favor those who plan to pursue careers dedicated to improving 
understanding or management of coastal systems.

SYMPOSIUM TRAVEL SUPPORT
A grant from NOAA's Coastal Ocean Program will cover the travel, room 
and board costs for most participants. 

FUTURE SYMPOSIA
The DIALOG V program cycle is already in progress. Contingent on the 
availability of funding, the DIALOG V symposium will be held in
