DIALOG & DISCCRS
Interdisciplinary Initiatives for Recent PhD Graduates
After years of specialization, today’s graduates increasingly find themselves on a multi-dimensional trajectory that requires a breadth of knowledge sufficient to make connections across distant disciplines and establishment of a global network of colleagues from divergent backgrounds. DIALOG (pronounced "dialogue") and DISCCRS (pronounced "discourse") were founded to catalyze this process. These initiatives include the DIALOG/DISCCRS webpage, a weekly electronic newsletter for registered Ph.D. graduates, and symposia for select cohorts of recent Ph.D. graduates.
DIALOG, Dissertations Initiative for the Advancement of Limnology and Oceanography, integrates across the full range of aquatic sciences with a focus on biology/ecology.
DISCCRS, Dissertations Initiative for the Advancement of Climate Change Research, brings together graduates across the entire spectrum of natural- and social-science fields relevant to climate change/impacts.
From their inception until 2007, ASLO provided the web space for the DIALOG and DISCCRS programs. In 2007, the program website was moved to its new home at www.disccrs.org. Please refer to the new website for up to date information regarding the programs. ASLO continues to sponsor DIALOG and DISCCRS activities and provides mailing list services for both programs. The 15 year long archive of dissertation abstracts (DIALOG:1757 abstracts; DISCCRS: 502 abstracts) registered from 1992 to 2007 is available on the ASLO website.
