Special Opportunities and
Information for Early Career Professionals

Career Center

There will be a Career Center set up where students and early career professionals can meet each other. This area will host the Career Bulletin Board, where prospective employers are invited to post job announcements and students and early career professionals are invited to post a one-page CV.

Roommates Wanted

Roommates Wanted is a free online service to ASLO students and early career members who are seeking roommates during meetings. To participate, visit http://www.aslo.org/meetings/roommates.html. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this service since hotel costs in Japan are expensive.  Dorms rooms also may be available.

Early Career Meet and Mix

Monday, 9 July, 19:00 to 21:00, Biwako Hall - Lobby

A "meet and mix" reception is planned and organized by members of the ASLO early career committee to give early career members an opportunity to provide feedback on various topics relevant to them, including any concerns or expectations as an early career member. This is a social gathering for early career members to get to know each other and to network.  Refreshments will be served. Come and meet the ASLO Board!

Early Career Workshop-Meet the Journal Editors : Tips on getting your work published and servicing the community through reviewing

Wednesday, 11 July, 12:00 to 13:30, Piazza Omi - Room 305

Come meet the editors of our most important learned journals. During this Q&A session organized for early career scientists by the ASLO Early Career Committee, you will learn more about the reviewing and editorial process at some of the major aquatic and ecological journals. We have invited a panel that includes editors from leading journals including L&O, L&O Methods, JPR, PLoS ONE. Early Career scientists are invited to attend and interact with the panel, to find out more about the process of getting published as well as reviewing and editing for journals. While this workshop is being planned to benefit "early career" scientists, that is, non-students members of ASLO who have received their highest degree within the last 10 years, all attendees are invited to participate. A limited number of boxed lunches will be served.
