The Marine Nitrogen Biogeochemistry Group at Dalhousie University invites applications for fully funded graduate studentships, MSc. and Ph.D., as well as postdoctoral fellowships, for the study of all aspects of the marine nitrogen cycle. Among the areas of interest are biogeochemical modelling, marine nitrogen fixation and its relationship to the marine geochemistry of hydrogen; the application of nitrogen isotopes to the study of paleoceanography and the contemporary cycling of nitrogen; studies of nitrous oxide production and loss; microbial genomics of diazotrophs, and measurement of nitrogen fixation. Candidates will have access to broad expertise, new state of the art analytical facilities, and funding for self-led group activities.
Suitable backgrounds for applicants will include chemistry, geology, biology, biochemistry, genomics, environmental science, oceanography, mathematics and bioinformatics. Successful applicants may commence studies in January or September 2014.
