Applications are invited for a position as professor with special responsibilities in Fisheries Management. The professorship is affiliated with the National Institute of Aquatic Resources (DTU Aqua), Section for Ecosystem based Marine Management in Copenhagen.
An important research activity of the section focuses on the development and application of fish stock and fisheries management simulation models and evaluation tools taking into account fisheries dynamics, efficiency, behaviour and the impact of climate and environmental change on resource dynamics. The aim is to evaluate the efficiency of management measures and the impact of fisheries on ecosystems.
Responsibilities and tasks
The Professor’s research field is to advance our understanding and quantification of fish population and fisheries dynamics and their management, as well as to enhance research and development on bio-economic fisheries management evaluation tools and integrated fish stock and fisheries simulation models.
The aim is to further develop methods to evaluate the effects of fisheries management measures to reduce the impact on the marine environment of fisheries and optimise fisheries performance. Furthermore, the research should promote methods that can be integrated into broader (cross-sector) marine management and maritime spatial planning. The research is expected to involve a combination of analysing fisheries- dependent and independent data acquired from commercial fisheries, research surveys, and fisheries biological data sampled in an interlinked approach.
An important focus will be on application, implementation and coordination of multidisciplinary research activities linking fisheries and environmental science, statistical and modelling approaches and the use of innovative methods and models to improve the environmental performance and effectiveness of fisheries management. Activities are expected to be conducted in cooperation with other research groups within the institute, other units at the university and the relevant research community in Europe, as well as fisheries management authorities.
The professor is expected to take leadership in planning, implementing and coordinating larger international and national multidisciplinary research projects and to couple these research activities and generated scientific results to national and international research, advisory and teaching activities.
The professor will contribute to teaching in coupled fish stock and fisheries assessments and dynamics as well as fisheries management at the master and PhD levels, and will supervise PhD students and post docs.
A position as professor with special responsibilities is held for a limited time period and involves all the usual duties associated with a full professorship, as well as fixed-term specific duties which will vary according to the research program.
Candidates should have well-documented international recognition within their research field, being visionary in their scientific approach and able to initiate and coordinate crucial research activities.
The position is intended for a candidate with a track record of internationally acknowledged research in integrated fish stock and fisheries assessment and management evaluation combined with experience in university teaching and knowledge on giving fisheries advice to public authorities and international advisory bodies.
An outstanding record in leadership, including planning and implementing larger international and national multidisciplinary research projects, is required.
Experience in teaching at the master and PhD levels and supervision of PhD students and post docs is also required.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
The position is available for a 5 year period and may be extended for up to 3 more years.
