The College of Science and Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) invites applications for the Chair of the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences (PENS) from individuals with an outstanding record in research and teaching in Oceanography. The department chair will provide direction, advocacy, oversight, and management to one of the most diverse and productive academic units on campus. Specifically, the chair will play a vital role in ensuring the success of a PhD program in Coastal and Marine System Science, as well as the continued success of existing BS and MS programs within the department.
PENS has 17 fulltime tenured or tenure-track faculty, 5 teaching staff/or instructors and over 300 science majors (including undergraduate and graduate students) offering BS degrees in Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Geology; an MS in Environmental Science; and a MS and PhD in Coastal Marine System Science. Several new degree programs are being proposed including a Physics BS, Atmospheric Sciences BS, Chemistry MS and Meteorology MS.
Applicants must have a PhD in Oceanography or related field and an academic record of achievement in scholarship appropriate for appointment with tenure at the rank of Professor. The incumbent will be expected to maintain an active externally funded research program and mentor graduate and undergraduate students and junior faculty in the department. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research record in geological, physical or chemical oceanography. Candidates must also demonstrate administrative experience, ability to oversee curriculum development and innovation, and communicate clearly and lead collaboratively.
