Research Scientist

A Research Scientist position
at the Great Lakes Center, SUNY Buffalo State. 
Start full time in January 2014 with $50,000 annual salary.  The position is for 3 years and based on
satisfactory performance. 

Great Lakes Center at SUNY Buffalo State seeks applications for a Research
Scientist position working on a project “Investigating Lake Sturgeon habitat
use, feeding ecology and benthic resource availability in the lower Niagara
River” funded by the Ecological Greenway Fund. 
The most preferred qualification
is experience in taxonomic identification of benthic invertebrates, and
experience in GIS analysis, remote sensing and habitat mapping. Other desirable
qualifications include strong skills in data analysis (univariate,
multivariate, spatial statistics), good publication record, experience in
successful grant writing and management, strong communication and writing
skills, and ability to operate and trailer boats.
  Primary duties will include designing of
benthic survey of the lower Niagara River based on habitats selected from
remote sensing and prior benthic studies; collection, processing, and
identification of benthic invertebrates to the lowest possible taxonomic level;
development of benthic habitat maps linking the distribution of physical
habitats identified with remote sensing with biological data obtained from
benthic sampling;
mployment of existing and development of new benthic
community biological indices for various types of identified habitats, and
selection of benthic
habitats of importance as diversity hotspots and fish feeding grounds. Other
duties will include
overall technical
grant management; data management and analysis, and report and grant proposal
Salary is $50,000 per
year with benefits included through the Research Foundation for SUNY. Location:
Great Lakes Center, SUNY Buffalo State, Buffalo, NY. Start Date: January
