Research Assistant Professor Postions

The University of South Alabama Marine Sciences Department seeks applications for 2 Research Assistant Professor positions (non-tenure track, 9-month) to start January 1, 2013 or soon thereafter. We seek applicants whose research is focused on (1) marine fisheries or (2) biological oceanography, and whose research programs can focus on local estuarine and marine waters. Partial salary support is available for the first year (up to 50%). Successful applicants will be responsible for securing externally funding for the remaining 50% of year 1 salary and 100% of salary thereafter. Applicants should be able to identify the source of their contribution to salary for year 1. Additional departmental support may be available after year 1 and teaching opportunities may be available to secure an additional month or two of salary; however, no guarantees of additional funding are made. The positions are non-tenure track and successful applicants will not accrue years of service towards tenure. Research equipment and space are available through the University of South Alabama or Dauphin Island Sea Lab, but start-up funds are not. Positions may be based at either the Dauphin Island Sea Lab or the Universitys main campus in Mobile. Final decision on location and space will be made prior to appointments and in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.
