Postdoctoral Fellow - Genomic Analysis of Paleo-Communities in Marine Sediments
KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology)
Directs, performs and supports research requiring technical knowledge in one or more research laboratories, or laboratory-oriented engineering and or science disciplines. To carry on next generation 16s amplicon sequencing analysis of paleo DNA conserved in marine sediments. The goal of the project is to understand which factors determine changes in past marine communities. (metatranscriptomics).
Major Responsibilities include but are not limited to -
Works closely with faculty in conducting scientific and technical research in specified areas of expertise.
Provides professional advice and Assistance in one or more research laboratories related to the candidates areas of specialization.
Supervises and ensures smooth operation, maintenance and safety of lab equipment.
Involved in training research staff and students for the basic operation of the equipment.
Helps faculty to develop Analytical methodologies and interpret analytical data.
Involved in identifying and Purchasing equipment to continuously improve the facultys research infrastructure.
Assists as required in setting up research laboratories.
Prepares written and oral technical reports and manuscripts.
Engages in regular seminars, conferences and workshops.
Required Skills & Attributes
Strong work ethic and close attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
Project management skills, including the ability to supervise and lead teams of students, technical assistants and junior researchers and to coordinate their work, as needed.
Proven record of scientific and technical publications.
Excellent English writing, communication and inter-personal skills.
Strong conceptual and practical background on the application of molecular techniques for characterizing communities.
A strong quantitative basis
A solid publication record on the subject and capacity for team work.
Experience sequencing paleoDNA or degraded DNA will be considered.
