Postdoc - Biofilm Heterogeneity
We have an immediate opening for a post-doctoral researcher at Northwestern University to investigate the causes and effects of heterogeneity in biofilms. Opportunities are available to study both mucoid and crystalline biofilms. We are investigating the relationship between environmental heterogeneity and internal heterogeneity in mucoid biofilms, which is relevant to basic microbial ecology, engineered bioreactors, and the efficacy of antimicrobials against biofilms. In a separate project, we are also studying the precipitation of biogenic mineral phases in biofilms. Both projects involve collaboration between teams of microbiologists, engineers, and mathematicians to observe and model fundamental interactions between biofilms and their local environment. We currently have funding to hire both an experimentalist and a theoretician or numerical modeler. These are excellent opportunities for individuals with a background in microbiology, biogeochemistry, bioengineering, mathematics, or related areas to take a leadership role in linked set of highly interdisciplinary studies.
