Postdoc in microbial ecology
Postdoc position in Ecosystem functions and bacterial
dispersal
We are currently recruiting a postdoc for a project dealing
with the importance of metacommunity processes for
ecosystem function. Inland water bacteria will be used as
model systems. The aim is to investigate:
1. If the dispersal rates of bacteria in and out of a
community affect the ecosystem services provided by bacteria
2. If the dispersal rates of bacteria in and out of a
community affect the association between community
composition and ecosystem functions.
The project is planned to be conducted mostly as field
studies, but experimental studies can also be made. The
functions of focus are mainly such associated with the
processing of organic carbon.
The successful candidate should have a PhD in a related field,
thus preferably having experience both with techniques for
studying bacterial diversity in nature (i.e. nucleic acid based)
and with research associated with ecological questions.
The postdoc is intended to start during the spring 2010.
Funding is currently given for one year, but there are
possibilities for a prolongation up to two years. The postdoc
gets 240 000 SEK/year (≈ € 24 000/year, non-taxable).
The project will be conducted at Department of Ecology and
Evolution at Uppsala University, Sweden. More precisely the
project is a collaboration between the subdepartments of
Limnology and Population Biology, two departments with
strong research groups in aquatic as well as terrestrial
ecology, the former with an especially long tradition in
Microbial Ecology. These departments are located at the
Evolutionary Biology Centre housing about 400 researchers
with an internationally high profile in ecology, evolution and
systematic.
The applicant should send in a personal letter describing hers
or his research interests and a CV (including contact
information of two reference persons) by email to Eva
Lindström (see below) no later than 15 February 2010. For
