The Department of Watershed Sciences (www.cnr.usu.edu/departments/wats) at Utah State University (www.usu.edu) is seeking to fill a 9-month, tenure track position in watershed hydrology and geomorphology at the assistant professor level. The initial appointment will be approximately 50% research, 40% teaching, and 10% service, but may be adjusted in the future to meet changing needs of the Department. Funding for this position is supported in part by the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station.

Relevant areas of research include, but are not limited to, surface and subsurface hydrology at hillslope to global scales; erosion, sediment delivery, and sediment transport; dissolved nutrient or contaminant transport; surface-ground water interactions; eco-hydrology; and hydrologic modeling. Research should be applicable to land management issues of forested, grazed, or farmed lands of the Intermountain West. Successful candidates will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research program that is primarily funded by extramural sources and supports personal scholarship and graduate student training. A USDA approved Current Research Information System (CRIS) project will be expected within three months of employment.
Teaching: The successful applicant will teach 3 courses per year, including a senior/graduate-level course in watershed hydrology, another course that strengthens the watershed sciences curriculum, and a graduate seminar in the candidate’s area of specialization.
Minimum qualifications: Applicants must have a PhD in watershed sciences, hydrology, or a related discipline at the time of employment, evidence of ability to conduct and disseminate research, and strong communication skills.
Preferred qualifications: Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Preferred qualifications also include a record of outstanding research and evidence of excellent teaching potential. The ability to establish collaborative working relationships is especially desirable.

Please submit a cover letter, research statement, teaching statement, and a complete CV. In your research statement, please describe your professional research interests and include a description of how your research interests complement current departmental and university interests. In your teaching statement, please discuss your teaching interests, philosophy at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and qualifications. Also, please upload up to 3 published articles under the ‘writing sample’ and ‘optional document’ options. In your CV, please include a list of 3 references and have them send letters of recommendation in .pdf format directly to the search committee chair (John C. Schmidt) at jack.schmidt@usu.edu. Letters of recommendation must be received by 15 February 2009, at which time review of applications will begin. The position is open until filled.
