Postdoctoral Position-Working on Fe-Oxidizing Bacteria
Postdoctoral position -- Working on Fe-oxidizing bacteria
A postdoctoral position is open immediately to work on the biology and ecology of lithotrophic, oxygen dependent iron-oxidizing bacteria that grow at neutral pH. This work is related to understanding their role in iron cycling in marine hydrothermal vent environments, and their potential to serve as biomarkers in both marine and freshwater habitats. The work will involve both culture dependent and independent approaches, and will involve collaboration with other
investigators interested in various aspects of geomicrobiology. The genomes of relevant Feoxidizing microbes will also be available for analysis. The ability to spend time at sea and work at field sites is necessary. Candidates should have a background in microbiology, and experience with molecular techniques, and a willingness to learn how these techniques can be coupled with geochemical techniques to investigate outstanding questions in geomicrobiology. Bigelow
Laboratory is an equal opportunity employer.
