Participating in month long cruises in the Gulf of Mexico, including Reef fish, Ground fish trawl, Plankton, Snapper and Shark bottom & vertical longline. Reef fish tape reading, species ID, outreach programs, as well as conducting independent research on the complete life history of Blacknose shark, Carcharhinus acronotus in the Gulf.
NOAA Fisheries Hawaii: May-July 2006
Worked in the Monk Seal Department; Logging data and responding to strand calls. Helped Complete Kauai 2004 data.
Wild Dolphin Project: May- June 2005
Volunteered for a week on the research vessel Stenella in the Bahamas, after swimming with the local pod we would study the video footage, and pictures taken daily to analyze behavior and identify markings. DNA was also collected and analyzed
Volunteering at the Marine Science Center at UNE: Fall 2004
The Marine Science Center and the rehabilitation facility is part of a network of centers authorized by the National Marine Fisheries Service to rescue and rehabilitate stranded marine mammals. Responsibilities include; feedings, salt concentration checks, cleaning, helping the pro staff and caring for the animals in the center.
