| DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES AND BACKGROUND |
| |
My name is David Thomas. I am graduating in the spring of
2008 and have a strong desire to continue my education. I have
experience in biological research. Currently I am involved in two
research projects, both of which will be presented at the
summer ASLO meeting in Canada this June. The projects that I
am working on are the NASA funded COBY project which is
coastal observation off the shore of Virginia. The second project
is on zooplankton physiology. With the help of my advisor I
designed an experiment to measure the metabolic response of
various zooplankton to high amounts of hydrostatic pressure.
Aside from my research experience, other qualities that would
make me suitable for a research assistant position are my ability
to work well in teams, as well as individually. I am very
passionate about research in biology and enjoy coming up with
new ideas for experiments. I am also in good physical condition
and would be willing do field work even in inclement weather.
One my other strong points wold be my ability and experience
with communication, specifically with presenting my research
ideas and projects. Along the lines of good physical condition
my six years of lifeguarding, and five years of competitive
swimming make me an excellent candidate for research
involving the collection of aquatic organisms. The courses that I
have taken as an undergraduate have provided me with an
extensive amount of field experience with respect to boat time,
and the use of various equipment. |
