Aquatic Sciences Databases
Introduction
The Aquatic Sciences Databases were established to facilitate interactions within the Aquatic Sciences community by allowing individuals to search and locate others working in similar areas. Participation is entirely voluntary and participants are able to update their own entries at any time. If you are interested in participating, you will be presented with a form to submit information, including basic contact information (your choice of telephone, email or paper mail), a checklist of topics that may relate to your work, and up to a one-page summary of your activities and background.
Present databases include the Policy Action Network and the Sensor Technology and Development Database, described below. If you feel that a new targeted database would be useful to a particular area in the Aquatic Sciences, please contact the Web Editor.
Policy Action Network
The Policy Action Netowrk is intended to facilitate communication between the ASLO Public Policy Office, members of ASLO, and policy makers in the U.S., Canada, and EU. Aquatic scientists have the option to:
- receive periodic updates on policy issues of interest to aquatic scientists;
- stay informed of the latest trends in research funding in the U.S., Canada, European Union and other governments;
- receive alerts when letters or calls to your government representatives are needed, and
- serve as a resource for policymakers in your district who are seeking scientific advice in your area of expertise.
Your participation in this database effort will help ASLO fill critical communication gaps between aquatic scientists and policy makers.
Sensor Technology and Development Database
The Sensor Technology and Development Database is intended to facilitate interactions within the sensor community by allowing individuals to search and locate others working in similar areas.
Appropriate Database Use
It is NOT possible to browse through lists of participants. The Database is not intended primarily as a telephone book or email list. Instead, the Databases are designed to retrieve information on individuals as a result of interactive web searches. This restriction is intended to reduce the possibility that information provided by individuals will be used inappropriately, for example to construct email lists for targeted advertising. ASLO strongly discourages any inappropriate commercial or other uses of the Aquatic Sciences Databases.
If you are looking for a particular individual that you believe is an ASLO member, please refer to the ASLO Business Office's Membership Directory, or contact the ASLO Business Office.
Updates and Deletions
You will be asked to supply a password when entering your information, and will be assigned a file number. You should record and keep both file number and password. You will need them to update your Database record via an Database Update Form at any time in the future. You can also request that your entry be deleted by contacting the Web Editor.
